Welcome! by MBNE

Hello! Thanks for visiting mbne.net! I appreciate you taking a moment to look around.

What is this place?

This is a new network engineering focused blog, with a few goals in mind:

  1. Publish my study notes for certifications I'm working on, to both help me and hopefully help others who are on the same journey.

  2. Post occasional 'Tech Notes' on different topics in the Security, Enterprise and Network Design areas, covering technical concepts, design challenges, emerging network technologies or new solutions worth talking about.

  3. Share community content including blogs, social media links, vendor references and other useful information I've found online that I think could be useful to any visitors.

I will be rewriting and publishing my archive of notes and information I've gathered on various topics over the years, in searchable categories. I'll also have somewhat curated content that is organised as per the certification exam blueprints as I work through them.

If just one aspiring or veteran network engineer needs to look something up, then finds the answer in my Tech Notes or elsewhere here, then this place has served its purpose.

Where do your tech notes come from?

As part of my studies, I've collated a large number of notes on different networking solutions I've encountered, exam blueprints I've worked through and of course the various protocols and tools that help network engineers keep their customers happy, by building efficient, secure, scalable enterprise networks.

As part of my job, I've written a number of high and low level designs, solution overviews, proposals, business cases and other project documentation over the years which has generated quite a number of notes on different business challenges as well.

Cisco, Cisco Press and other publishing houses have released some excellent books, video training, blogs, reference designs and other content which I often use to help me learn and understand technologies.

As a (hopefully) useful reference for myself and for the community, I've decided to tidy all that information up and post them them here on mbne.net, as well as linking you to the many great people and even better resources that the this community has to offer. Chances are, if I haven't yet posted what you are looking for as yet, someone else has.

Who are you?

I'm a network engineer from Scotland, who relocated to Denmark in 2019. I'm currently focused on the road towards CCIE Security and I'm going to pick up some of the specialist certifications in this track along the way, to add to my CCNP Enterprise and the other specialist certifications I have. I generally work in consultancy, architecture, network design and project engineering capacities on enterprise networks, focusing on Security, Campus LANs, Wireless LANs and Network Design.

How often will there be content published?

There will be no schedule, but I have a lot of notes I want to share and a lot of studying ahead of me, so whenever I finish a section or topic and I'm happy with the accuracy of my notes, I'll post them here and cross post them to Twitter and LinkedIn.

At the moment I'm focusing heavily on Cisco ISE and Iā€™m hoping to pass the CCNP Security - Implementing and Configuring Cisco Identity Services Engine exam (SISE 300-715), so there will be a lot of notes on that particular topic coming up shortly.

How do I know when there's new content?

If you want to known when a new post is published, you can follow me on Twitter or subscribe to my RSS feed. Just use the social links at the top and bottom of the page.

Anyway - thanks for visiting, and I hope you find something useful!
